Branca M. Cavaco

Branca M. Cavaco (BSc, PhD) graduated in Biochemistry and obtained her doctorate at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She is an Auxiliary Researcher at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology in Lisbon, where she leads the Molecular Endocrinology Group, part of the iNOVA4Health Research Unit and the LS4FUTURE Associated Laboratory.

Her research team is multidisciplinary, comprising basic researchers, endocrinologists, master's and doctoral students and laboratory technicians. The group's primary focus is the clinical and molecular study of neoplastic diseases affecting the endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal). The team has made significant contributions in the identification of genes involved in hereditary predisposition to thyroid and parathyroid neoplasms, and in the study of new biomarkers of prognosis and response to therapy.

She has participated in or led more than 30 research projects, involving national and international collaborations, and has published more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals, with more than 4,800 citations (h-index of 32). She is an active member of various associations and scientific societies in the fields of Endocrinology and Oncology.
